At a staff meeting at Conergy headquarters in Hamburg yesterday, the employees appointed an election committee that is to prepare the forthcoming election of the works council for the Hamburg location. In a personal greeting, Dieter Ammer, Chairman of the Management Board, seemed pleased: “We as the Management Board consider this development to be very positive and will positively oversee the founding. We have already had intensive and very constructive conversations with the initiators in advance and are certain that the future works council will not only represent the interests of the staff but also the objectives of the company. In particular, we are pleased that there is an interest in supporting us here with the further restructuring.”
Afterwards, the staff unanimously appointed three colleagues to the election committee and four substitute members. Harald Schwochow, head of industrial safety and hygiene at Conergy, was selected as the chair of the election committee. Harald Schwochow commented: “Securing the future of the Conergy Group is the main project for 2008 for us as staff as well. We will help to both actively and constructively accompany, design and further drive the restructuring on the part of the employees. As the works council, we would like to be the mouthpiece of the staff as well as a contact for the management board – and thus further strengthen the motivation of employees as well as their trust in this Group.”
The election body will prepare the election of the actual works council over the next eight to ten weeks and then tailor it to the Hamburg location. Leading up to the actual election, the task will be to determine the number of employees entitled to vote, which is then used to determine the number of works council members to be elected. Nominations will then be accepted and the list of candidates published. According to Schwochow: “We see the founding of a works council as an important step in developing further professional structures at Conergy and in assisting in the positive repositioning of our company for the future.”
