Conergy Deutschland GmbH has successfully connected the “Heimpersdorf” megawatt solar farm, with a peak output capacity of 2.4 megawatts, to the grid. The company sold the Bavarian solar farm to an investor in May and immediately forged ahead with construction. The on-schedule grid connection in Heimpersdorf ensures the investor will already profit this year from an attractive feed-in tariff of 31.94 cents (euro) per kilowatt hour of power. With the completion of the project, Conergy has already realized six solar farms with a total output of 15.5 MW in the Aichach-Friedberg district. Throughout all of Bavaria, Conergy has completed twelve large-scale turnkey projects.
“The grid connection in Heimpersdorf carries the success story of photovoltaics in the Aichach-Friedberg district smoothly forward,” declared Norbert Apfel, Company Director of Conergy Deutschland GmbH. “All Conergy projects in the region benefit from the excellent cooperation with the responsible public authorities and project developers locally, all of whom have contributed greatly to their speedy realization,” emphasized Apfel. Together, the six solar farms in Aichach-Friedberg annually provide solar power to around 13.5 percent of the region’s population. In November 2008, Conergy initially inaugurated three solar farms in Baar, Gebersdorf and Wiesenbach with a total capacity of nine megawatts. “Especially noteworthy is the exemplary commitment of the investors in the district, who for years have been actively engaged in the necessary expansion of renewable energies in the region,” stated Apfel. “Thanks to the attractive regulatory framework for photovoltaics, we are confident that further investors will follow their example.”
To complete the solar farm, Conergy installers mounted around 33,120 thin-film modules over an area of approximately 9 hectares (22 acres), or almost 12 soccer fields. During mount assembly, solar experts installed over 9,000 support posts and assembled over 13,200 meters (14,435 yards) of the mounting system. “In Heimpersdorf, we were able to utilize an advanced version of our in-house mounting system, SolarLinea, which instantly allows a space-saving module installation in three rows, one over the other,” explained Jochen Eicke, Chief Engineer at Conergy. “The use of Conergy SolarLinea offers many advantages: The mounting system optimally equalizes any existing irregularities of the terrain and can be used flexibly over the open area due to the possibility to vary module alignment and spacing between the mount rows,” continued Eicke.
With its launch, the “Heimpersdorf” solar farm will produce annually around 2.6 million kilowatt hours of solar power – enough to meet the electric needs of 750 four-person households with clean energy for an entire year. The climate also benefits from this investment: Over its 20-year minimum lifespan, the power plant will save over 35,520 tons of CO2 emissions – comparable to the annual CO2 emissions of 17,800 mid-size cars. Due to its high irradiance levels and good political support, even at a regional level, Bavaria currently offers very good conditions for the implementation of solar technology. According to the German Solar Industry Association (BSW), the yearly generated amount of solar power in Bavaria has more than doubled in the past legislative period (since 2005). Also during 2009, Bavaria acquired the largest share of the expansion of photovoltaics in Germany with 38% of all newly installed plants.
