Conergy Deutschland GmbH sells the Heimpersdorf megawatt solar park to investor

  • Conergy Deutschland concludes contracts for 2.4 MW Heimpersdorf solar park
  • Immediate construction start, connection to the grid in the third quarter of 2009
  • Heimpersdorf is Conergy's sixth major project in the district of Aichach-Friedberg, Bavaria
  • Conergy has installed a total of seven thin-film parks in the region of Augsburg with a volume of roughly 20 megawatts

Hamburg/Heimpersdorf, June 08th, 2009 – Conergy Deutschland GmbH, one of the leading providers of products and solutions related to solar power generation, has completed its sale of the large photovoltaic project in Heimpersdorf near Augsburg. The subsidiary of the quoted Conergy AG sold the solar park, with an installation volume of 2.4 megawatts, to an investor. The path is thus open for the immediate start of construction for the open-space plant. The park is projected to be connected to the local grid during the third quarter of the current financial year. The rapid completion of the project ensures the investor an attractive fixed feed-in tariff of 31.94 cents per kilowatt hour of solar energy produced. Conergy is assuming responsibility for the project development as well as the planning, supply of modules and construction of the megawatt project.

“Our sixth project completion in the district of Aichach-Friedberg demonstrates once more that Conergy, with more than 10 years of market experience, continues to be the first choice among investors and that they are switching more and more to photovoltaics as a secure and high-yield investment alternative as a result of the financial crisis,” explains Norbert Apfel, CEO of Conergy Deutschland GmbH. In November 2008 the company officially inaugurated the three thin-film solar parks in Baar, Gebersdorf and Wiesenbach, with a total volume of nine megawatts. “The commitment of the communities in the district to solar energy is absolutely commendable – and creates an outstanding environment for further commitment by investors in this region,” stated Apfel.

Conergy has found a reliable partner in Robert Pöttschan, CEO of the Ingenieursbüro für erneuerbare Energien (I-B-E), for its projects in Augsburg and the surrounding area. I-B-E and Conergy Deutschland GmbH have assumed responsibility for local project development for four of the plants realized thus far in the district. Pöttschan, commenting on the successful start of construction, said : “Like the previous projects, the Heimpersdorf project demonstrated once again the high degree of openness among the Aichach-Friedberg district administrative office and the community of Barr to the expansion of renewable energies. In particular, the cooperation with the mayor of Baar, Leonhard Kandler, and the nature preservation authorities was always constructive and goal-oriented,” said Pöttschan, praising the good teamwork between the world of business and politics in the implementation of this major project.

The solar park extends across nine hectares of open space, which corresponds to about 12 soccer fields. Conergy employees are installing about 33,120 thin-film modules for the park. In Heimpersdorf, the system provider is also installing for the first time a further development of the company’s own SolarLinea mounting system, which enables the installation of the modules in three successive rows, thereby guaranteeing an especially space-saving assembly. When commissioned, the park will produce roughly 2.6 million kilowatt hours of solar electricity per year, supplying about 750 households with clean energy. At the same time, the region’s power plant will save more than 35,500 tons in CO2 emissions over a period of at least 20 years.

About Conergy

Since its founding in 1998, Hamburg-based Conergy AG has sold more than a gigawatt in renewable energy, making it one of the biggest European suppliers of solar energy and other renewable energies, and a world leader in solar system integration. Of the one gigawatt in renewable energies, Conergy has installed more than 400 megawatts in its major projects, Of the total one gigawatt, 200 megawatts falls to its wind energy park projects and 800 to its globally marketed solar modules. According to the German Solar Industry Association (BSW) this is just under a fifth of the entire installed photovoltaic output in Germany. Calculative one in ten modules worldwide was produced, sold or installed by Conergy.

Listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 2005, the group pursues a global growth strategy, The company now produces, installs and designs solar power systems and wind turbines in around 15 countries. The Conergy Group is represented with its own branches on four continents.
